D2 Visa

The D2 visa in Portugal is a national visa that is intended for foreign nationals who wish to enter and reside in Portugal for business or investment purposes. This visa allows the applicant to obtain a permit to stay and work in the country.

Basic steps and requirements for obtaining a D2 visa in Portugal:

1. Document Preparation: The applicant must provide the following documents:

   - A completed and signed visa application form.

  - Valid passport with at least 3 months remaining validity after the end of the requested period of stay.

  - Proof of financial solvency proving sufficient funds to carry out business or investment activities in Portugal.

  - Business plan or information about the proposed activity, including information about planned investments and job creation.

  - Documents confirming the availability of suitable accommodation in Portugal.

2. application to the consular section: the applicant should apply to the consular section of the Portuguese Embassy or Consulate in his/her country of residence to apply for a visa. It is necessary to submit all required documents, fill in the application form and pay the consular fee.

3. Examination of the application: The Consular Section will review the application and the documents provided. During the review process, additional documents or an interview may be required.

4. Visa issuance: If the application is approved, the applicant will receive a D2 visa in his passport. The period of validity of the visa may vary depending on the anticipated period of stay in Portugal.

5. Arriving in Portugal and obtaining a residence permit: After arriving in Portugal, the applicant must go to the local Citizenship and Immigration Service (SEF) office to obtain a residence permit (Residência), which is the next step after obtaining a D2 visa. This will require you to submit additional documents and go through the SEF registration process.

Here are some key steps:

1. Registration with the SEF: After arriving in Portugal, you need to go to your local Citizenship and Immigration Service (SEF) office to register. You will need to provide the following documents:

   - A completed SEF questionnaire.
  - A passport with a D2 visa.
  - Documents proving you are financially secure (bank statements, income statements, etc.).
  - Documents confirming the availability of housing in Portugal (rental or ownership agreement).
  - Business plan or information about business or investment activities.

Biometric data and fees: In the SEF you may need biometric data (fingerprints) and payment of a registration fee.

3. Application review: The SEF will review your application and the documents provided. If necessary, they may request additional information or conduct an interview.

4. Obtaining a residence permit: If your application is approved, you will be issued a residence permit (Residência). The duration of the permit may vary, but it is usually a temporary permit, which can then be renewed.

Once you have been granted a residence permit, you can legally reside and work in Portugal in accordance with the conditions of your D2 visa. It is important to follow the deadlines for the renewal of your residence permit and to comply with all the requirements set by the Portuguese immigration authorities.
